KERN COUNTY, Calif. — The unemployment rate in Kern County continues to climb after reaching its lowest point this past spring.
The Employment Development Department is reporting the unemployment rate for July was 8.4 percent. That was up from 8 percent in June.
The unemployment rate hit a near two year high back in March -- hitting 10 percent -- before dropping to just over 7 percent in May. It was 8.3 percent last July.
Kern County's unemployment rate is more than double the national average of 4 percent.
