In Colorado, spring and winter are fighting

We’re halfway through April, and Mother Nature appears to be having a tough time deciding what season it should be in Colorado.

Half the state is currently under winter storm warnings and later this afternoon and evening, the other half of the state could be under severe thunderstorm watches.

A strong storm system is slowly moving into the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, and it's going to take all weekend to move across the state.

This means some areas are going to see some big snowfall totals.

By the end of the weekend, parts of the mountains could get feet of snow while some parts of the Denver Metro area could see upwards of a foot of snow!

In the eastern half of the state where the elevation is much lower and temperatures will be warmer, thunderstorms are most likely late in the day on Friday, and some of them could become severe, possibly producing strong winds, large hail or even a tornado or two.

While this type of extreme weather may seem strange to most people in the United States, it's not uncommon for measurable snow to fall late into April, and it's even fallen as late as early June!

So this might not be the last time winter and spring have a throw down on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
