BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — In the early days of the Coronavirus, people were being laid off or furloughed in droves.

23ABC understands the pandemic has left any people feeling frustrated and helpless while unemployed in a time of extreme vulnerability, even as companies that specialize in finding people jobs have been left waiting for people to want to go back to work.

23ABC is dedicated to helping you to "Rebound" and it could be as simple as a phone call.

"In the beginning, people thought we were closed," said Denise Mendez, lead staffing coordinator with Continental Labor and Staffing Resources. She said she needs applicants for a wide range of careers, from oil and gas, to construction, clerical and warehouse jobs.

The hiring practices have changed in the physical sense, with numerous safety protocols in place at their offices. The interview process has also changed, with all applications submitted on line, and the in-person interview replaced by a phone call.

"It's different over the phone from having them in front of you," said Mendez, "instead of watching their body language, eye contact, you don't get that over the phone."

Mendez said they usually follow up with applicants within 24 hours, and they will post updates on their Facebook page with job openings and qualifications.

"We're here for them, when they're ready," said Mendez.

Continental Labor places 15-to-20 people in a job on average each week.
