BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — North High School has added a new club to its student activities this semester.

According to Christy Wheat, an adviser with the district, the school has introduced a Fishing Club to teach the sport of fishing, explore nature, teach students the fundamentals of the sport, and conservation of the environment. Wheat told 23ABC that the program has about 40 student members ranging from advanced to beginners.

The club meets weekly with its first official meeting scheduled for Wednesday and an inaugural fishing trip slated for January 8.

Wheat said the club is also hosting a donation drive in hopes of purchasing fishing licenses and kits for its students. They are in need of things such as fishing poles and tackle boxes.

To make a donation you can drop it off at North High School or contact Christy Wheat to schedule a pick up.
