Fernie Jiu Jitsu made history this past weekend when they traveled to Long Beach to compete in the SJJIF 2018 Kid’s World Championship.

They took home four gold team trophies. An accomplishment, no team in the world has been able to achieve.

They also won 38 individual gold medals.

They represented Kern County and competed against teams like Japan, Brazil, China and Los Angeles.

“Bakersfield, we’re a small town. We have small teams. You can never beat those big guys, but again my team kept winning a lot of gold and we slowly kept running up the ladder, and the rest is history,” said Fernando Arreola, the owner of Fernie Jiu Jitsu.

The team took home the 2018 Team of the Year and 2018 World Champions in Gi and No-Gi.

“This year alone we competed in thirteen tournaments. We won 12 out of thirteen and out of those thirteen, we won gold in every single one,” said Arreola. “We got the most gold in every single tournament which is unheard of.”
