BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Garces Memorial High School girls volleyball team clinched their first win at home in 2019 with a 3-1 victory over Mira Monte.
2018 Central Section semifinalists, the Lions came out with a swift win in the first set but the Rams countered to sweep the next three, finishing 24-26, 25-13, 25-12, 25-17.
Alex Penner had seven kills for Garces while Ali Adkins led the offensive charge with four aces and a team-high 24 assists. Along with Aspen Chang's team-high 18 digs, the sophomore finished the final set with an ace, one of four.
Senior for Mira Monte Emily Hernandez led the match with 12 kills as her team is 8-4-3 on the season while Garces improves to 3-6-1 on the season.
