The CSU Bakersfield volleyball team lost to Stanford, the #3 ranked team in the country, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in straight sets 25-11, 25-15, 25-17.
Going against the defending national champions, the Runners were outsized from the start, but their chances took a major blow when senior Haylee Roberts left the game with an apparent knee injury.
"We knew what we were going up against. They're number three in the country," said senior Sydney Haynes. "It didn't really matter we're just excited to play together and enjoy it. That's all that really mattered was to enjoy it."
The Runners lose five seniors through graduation but in looking at the future, head coach Giovana Melo said her four freshman got a taste of what it’s like to play on the big stage and she's hoping they can make it four years of going to the NCAA Tournament.
