BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — There are just 18 full practice workouts left for the Bakersfield College Renegades until their Sep. 7th kickoff.

The team held their annual media day on Wednesday morning to give the community a look at their team and their new field. It’s the same that the New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots play on.

“We have the best stadium in the country by far,” said Braden Wingle, the Renegades quarterback. “There's not a lot of stadiums that compare to this, especially at the J.C. level.

Running back Shane Jones is hopeful that the new playing surface can give him an extra boost.

“Hopefully it’ll give me some powers or something,” he said. “It’s cool though, for real the stadium is nice, it’s real nice.”

BC will suit up in pads for the first time this morning. Centennial High School grad and tight end Zach Hartsfield is liking what he’s seeing so far from the renegades.

“We’re looking really good this year,” he said. “We have a lot of returners on offense and on defense we have a lot of new guys, but everyone is stepping up so I’m excited.”

He’ll be catching passes this year from Wingle. The two played against each other when he played at Bakersfield Christian High School.

“I’ve been throwing with him since high school,” Hartsfield said. “We went to the same gym and stuff, it’s really fun getting able to play catch with him again.”

The season will kick off at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium when the Renegades take on Mt. Sac.
