BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — It is the week that everyone has been waiting for. The opening round of the CIF Central Section high school football playoffs were upon us and there were 21 area teams in action with three teams on a bye week.
In Division 1, No. 8 Ridgeview was victorious over No. 9 Tulare Union by a final of 40 to 21.
Bakersfield came in as the seven seed and hosted No. 10 Clovis East. The Drillers toppled in this game, winning it 34 to 15.
In Division 2, our FNL: Game of the Week was No. 8 Frontier hosting No. 9 Garces Memorial. The Titans lost their starting quarterback on the first drive and couldn't recover. Garces wins 37 to 7.
Some other top games in the area saw No. 5 Shafter be upset by No. 12 Arvin in Division 5 and No. 10 Wasco handle business against No. 7 East in Division 4.
