BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Less than a month away from the return of Cal State Bakersfield basketball to Bakersfield, the two programs are ready to return to the court for the 2019-20 season.

Both teams following memorable seasons are both preparing to end their run in the Western Athletic Conference as this will be CSUB's final year a part of the WAC before heading to the Big West Conference.

The men have added size to their roster in hopes of finding consistency on the court after a season of highs and lows.

"We couldn't throw enough bodies at people, we couldn't play two post players that were inside together and now we get an opportunity, we have really, really good size," men's basketball Head Coach Rod Barnes said. "We wanted to add something different where we thought we were hurting and that was entire scoring and rebounding and hopefully we added that with the guys that we added."

While the women found a little more success in postseason before falling in the semifinal of the WAC Tournament. That pain of not reaching their ultimate goal of bringing home a conference championship has served as motivation heading into the new season.

"We know that this is our last time being in the WAC, I guess you can call it our WAC farewell tour, that's what I've been calling it, but we would definitely love to finish it out strong and leave out on top in the WAC make history for the last time," women's basketball Head Coach Greg McCall said. "We would love to do that and I know these young ladies are working so hard to be able to do that and they're practicing hard and I'm challenging them."

Both teams will play in their annual Blue-Gold scrimmage on October 22 at the Icardo Center.
