BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — On Thursday night, the U.S. Army National Guard Center in Bakersfield hosted the draft night for the 19th Annual U.S. Army All Star Bowl.
54 Kern County seniors were selected to the black or gold squad and will compete in the nation's only indoor football all star game, which will be held at Mechanics Bank Arena on May 15, 2020.
Ridgeview's Anthony Ramirez was the first overall pick and will lead the gold squad, while Liberty's Dylan Tooker was the top pick for the black squad.
Mira Monte football coach Christian Johnson will be returning as head coach of the Gold Squad and East Bakersfield's defensive coordinator Chad Elmore will take over the reigns as the head coach for the Black Squad. Elmore is the first former all star player, having played in the game in 2012, to become a head coach for the same game.
