In this edition of A Veteran's Voice, we visit with a man who answered the call to serve three times.
Larry Lucas enlisted in '67 and by early 1969 Larry was part of the 5th Marines 2nd Battalion deployed to Vietnam in an area just south of Da Nang. He spent many nights going out to ambush enemy patrols in close combat.
When his service ended Lary found the chance to serve again one year later with the Oakland Police Department. He wore the badge for nearly three decades.
Larry also stood up and served in the Air Force Reserve for more than 20 years, including volunteering to help troops deploy from Travis Air Force Base during Desert Storm.
After a lifetime of battling health-related issues while answering the call to serve Larry learned he had a new fight. Doctors running tests earlier this week due to fatigue discovered a mass on his lower esophagus where it connects to the stomach. And in true marine corp fashion Larry said he plans to meet it head-on no matter what the outcome.
