SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Highway Patrol members, family, and friends gathered in Sacramento to honor a fallen comrade.
The day was meant to honor 90-years of CHP service at the CHP Academy. Instead it became a memorial for Officer Andre Moye Junior. He was shot in Riverside on Monday by a suspect after a traffic stop.
Moye was preparing to impound the man's car when the suspect reached for a rifle and fired, killing the officer.
"Officer Moye epitomizes what a CHP officer should always be," said Commissioner Warren Stanley. "A dedicated and selfless public servant. He will not be forgotten."
Moye is survived by his wife, parents, and siblings.
Two other officers shot in the gunfight remain hospitalized.
