Spirit Airlines wants to let domestic passengers check bags without speaking to an agent.
If the technology wins government approval, customers will interact with a facial scanner before dropping off their luggage.
Spirit says the face scanning technology will compare a passenger's identity with his or her identification card. It then confirms the information with the reservations. Passengers pay any baggage fees and tag their bags.
The system is being tested at New York's Laguardia and Chicago's O'Hare airports.
