SOLEDAD, Calif. — Eight inmates are recovering from injuries following a riot at a state prison in Monterey County. Officials say about 200 prisoners got into a fight at the corrections training facility in Soledad.
Corrections officers used chemical agents and non-lethal weapons to get things under control. They also fired nine warning shots before the riot at the prison yard finally stopped.
Fifty inmates later required medical treatment but no staff members were injured.
Investigators are now looking into the cause of the riot.
