The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced Wednesday morning that 46 more field offices will re-open throughout the state starting Thursday. That will bring the number of re-opened facilities to 71.
The hours for the re-opened offices will be: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the exception of opening at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
"The DMV is selecting offices to reopen based on location, size, service capacity and the ability to offer enhanced service to commercial driver license customers. Behind-the-wheel drive tests continue to be suspended."
The DMV continues to ask residents to use online services whenever possible.
To keep customers and employees safe, the DMV's will practice social distancing. Customers will be required to wear a face mask and remain 6 feet apart.
As an added service, customers will also be offered a text message that will allow them to wait outside the building until notified they are ready to be served.
As a result of the new guidelines, wait times may be longer than normal.
