Two cousins found a prosthetic leg at a Florida beach. Social media helped them get it back to its owner

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — Here's a vacation memory a couple of cousins will never forget.

Farra Bata and Amanda Taylor were in the water at Panama City Beach, Florida, when they saw what they thought was a stingray. It was actually a prosthetic leg.

The women posted about finding it on Facebook — and they found the owner.

"It somehow got shared so much that the girl that the leg belongs to ... her mother, who's in Arkansas, found it, found the post, and knew that it belonged to her daughter," Bata said.

Bata posted a photo of the prosthetic leg to the I Love Panama City Beach Facebook page where it immediately gained traction. As of Wednesday morning, the post had been shared more than 900 times and had roughly 1,500 reactions.

"There's been so many jokes on Facebook posts but it's all been in good nature," Taylor said.

The two ladies agreed though — everyone just wanted the leg to get back to its original owner.

They think the woman lost her leg when she was knocked over by a wave.
