BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The McFarland Unified School District has announced they will temporarily close all schools in their district beginning on Wednesday.

A press release sent to 23ABC News by MUSD on Sunday, stated that the district will "transition to distance learning."

"Even though there are still no confirmed cases in Kern County, the District understands it has a duty to stop and contain the spread of this virus," the release states.

For parents who already have arrangements for the upcoming week, MUSD says it "completely" understands if students stay at home.

"For those of you bringing children to school Monday and Tuesday, rest assured that all school sites received another deep cleaning this past weekend in the classroom,s playgrounds, and facilities," the release adds.

Social distancing will be practiced at all MUSD schools, according to the district.

MUSD also announced that school staff above the age of 65 and those with compromised immune systems, will not be on any district campuses.
