Several auto plants throughout the country have suspended production as demand falls amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit says all of the "Big 3" Detroit automarkers — Fiat-Chrysler, Ford and GM — will suspend operations at manufacturing plants.

The details of the closure are expected to be released later Wednesday, and the closures could come as early as Wednesday. It is not known how long the shutdowns will last.

Also on Wednesday, Honda says it will suspend production on vehicles at all production plants in North America in response to the coronavirus pandemic beginning next week. In addition, Ford and Fiat-Chrysler have also closed some production plants in Michigan.

Honda said in a press release Wednesday that will suspend production beginning March 23 through March 31. Honda says it will continue to pay the 27,000 employees affected by the pause in production. In the United States, the shutdown will close plants in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana and Ohio.

Honda says the pause reduction by 40,000 vehicles.
