LOS ANGELES, Calif. — As the coronavirus continues to spread, California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a series of requests to mitigate further spread of the virus.

Newsom is calling on all seniors, aged 65 and older, to self isolate at home, according to reports from our affilate ABC 7 in Los Angeles. He is also requesting all bars, wineries and brewpubs to close. He added that restaurants can still operate, but to practice social distancing while cutting their occupancy to half capacity.

According to the governor's remarks, these requests are not orders by the state, but instead, precautionary guidelines to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Newsom said six people have died in California as a result of the Coronavirus. His announcement comes hours after the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced 16 additional cases of the virus in LA County.

Los Angeles now has 69 confirmed cases of the virus.
