BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The unemployment rate in Kern County was 17.5% in June of this year, down from a revised 18.1% from May 2020.
Last month's unemployment rate ranked above the year-ago estimate of 8%.
This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 15.1% for California and 11.2% for the nation during the same period.
Kern County gained 11,300 jobs in June, with most of the gains coming from education and health services as well as the leisure and hospitality industries. The county lost 1,700 jobs, 1,300 of which were in the government sector.
