A thunderstorm rolled into Bakersfield Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Hanford.
A weather advisory was in place for central Kern County until 4:45 p.m. No tornadoes have formed but spiral dust storms have been seen, according to NWS.
30 mile per hour wind with blowing dust was reported in East Bakersfield. Wind gusts up to 52 mph were reported in Lamont just before 4 p.m. The NWS said wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph will be possible with this storm.
Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Lamont 10 miles southeast of Bakersfield moving south at 10 mph around 3:59 p.m.
Blowing dust may reduce visibility up to a quarter mile or less, according to the National Weather Service.
