Twin sisters from western Michigan are taking their competitiveness to another level. They’re running for county commissioner seats, but they’re in opposing parties.

Jessica Ann Tyson is a Republican, running for Kent County’s 13th district seat, while her sister Monica Sparks, a Democrat, hopes to win the county’s 12th district.

The sisters say they are close, but they’re not endorsing one another.

“We’re not upset with each other; we're not going to throw in the towel in our relationship,” Sparks said. “We love each other, and we understand that if you want to move forward, our parents have always taught us, be diplomatic; try to find some common ground that you can work from there.”

The women say their parents are very supportive of both of them.
