TAFT, Calif — The Taft Correctional Institute is beginning to reduce operations according to the Bureau of Prisons.
The facility is being vacated for critical repairs with the hope of opening up the building when the repairs are finished.
"The intent is to return the facility to full operations as soon as possible and to ensure that it will be brought up to the proper level of safety and structural integrity for the protection of staff and inmates," According to the Bureau of Prisons.
Inmates are being temporarily transferred from the facility.
The closing of the facility is not related to the coronavirus.
