Southwest neighborhood invaded by chinch bug

Posted

A new neighborhood in the southwest says they're being invaded by thousands of chinch bugs.

The homeowners moved into their brand new homes less than two months ago and the bugs started showing up shortly after.

The tiny bugs are crawling inside and outside of the homes by the thousands.

The homes were built by Lennar Homes just south of Panama Lane near Old River. The homeowners think the bugs are coming from an abandoned empty field behind their homes. Local pest control companies have come out to spray but the bugs come back within minutes.

23 ABC reached out to Lennar homes and they said they had no comment and that the empty field belongs to a farmer and not their housing development.

Pest control said the bugs will come back as long as the field isn't properly maintained.

The homeowners are now trying to find the owner of the land behind their homes in hopes that they will clean up the field. So far, 23 ABC has not been able to identify that person.
