SHAFTER, Calif. — (UPDATE 1 P.M.) The California Highway Patrol reported a man suffered fatal injuries in a crash on Burbank Street and Scaroni Avenue in Shafter Monday morning.
According to CHP, the male driver was heading westbound on Burbank Street in a Nissan Altima and stopped at the limit line with Scaroni Avenue. At the same time, a woman driving a Chevy Captivity SUV northbound on Scaroni Avenue approached Burbank Street.
As the male driver entered the intersection, he failed to notice the Chevy at a close distance. The Nissan was struck broad side at the drivers side door. Both vehicles continued in a westerly direction and struck a fence from a nearby business.
The male driver of the Nissan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The Shafter Police Department responded to a deadly crash on Burbank Street and Scaroni Avenue in Shafter Monday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, around 7 a.m. a crash involving a white Chevy SUV and a grey Nissan Sedan left one person dead. CHP reported one vehicle went through a fence at a nearby ranch.
