Several options available for recycling Christmas trees in Kern County

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Public Works Department announced there are several ways to go about recycling your Christmas tree this year.

Residents in the metro-Bakersfield area can place their Christmas trees inside their green waste container as long as the tree is cut into small pieces and the container lid is completely closed. Whole trees are not accepted.

Several organizations, including the Independence High School band and Boy Scouts Troop #712, are offering to pick up Christmas trees for a small donation. More information can be found at kernpublicworks.com or by calling 661-862-8900.

Residents can also self-haul whole Christmas trees to one of several drop-off locations, which will accept them from Dec. 26 through Jan. 6. Families are reminded to remove all ornaments, lights and tree stands prior to dropping off their Christmas trees.
