A dedication ceremony for a new Kern County jail was held Wednesday morning north of Bakersfield.
The new facility has been 10 years in the making and expands the current 2,400-inmate capacity by 822 beds, includes three separate buildings and covers 220,000 square feet.
Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood is calling the facility the best in the state.
The ribbon-cutting for the $126.7 million state-of-the-art jail was at Kern County Jail - Lerdo at 10 a.m.
Inmates are expected to move into the medium to maximum facility on Saturday.
