The town of Ridgecrest and surrounding communities are grabbing the headlines recently when it comes to earthquakes, but 68 years ago a 7.3-magnitude quake ripped across Bear Mountain and right through the town of Tehachapi.
The quake killed 12 people, was responsible for at least 18 injuries, and caused at least $50 million in property damage, according to the Southern California Earthquake Data Center.
The Tehachapi heritage league has preserved much of the history from that day.. including film recorded from that day.
23ABC caught up with Pat Gracey in 2017, one of the few remaining survivors still living in Tehachapi with first-hand knowledge of what happened.
KTLA in Los Angeles donated the original film to the museum about 15 years ago.
Pat Gracey is still making headlines in Tehachapi today. She just posted an article in the Tehachapi loop newspaper.
