DELANO, Calif. — Parents at Terrace Elementary in Delano have received a letter stating that the school will be closed on Thursday, August 15 due to a flea infestation on campus.
23ABC has confirmed with school officials that the letter was sent out on Wednesday after they discovered fleas were present in a "small number" of classrooms. An official with the school district also confirmed that "roughly 12 students" were impacted by the infestation.
According to officials, pest control spent Wednesday afternoon spraying the elementary and will continue to cover all classrooms on Thursday.
The letter issued to parents also said that they will provide supervision for parents who can't secure child care for Thursday. Parents will need to bring their kids to the school and they will then be bused to a location where supervision and food services will be provided. Terrace Elementary says it will reopen its doors on Friday August 16.
School started last week for Terrace Elementary students.
