BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The city of Bakersfield announced a new park will soon be coming to Southeast Bakersfield.

According to the City, the Recreation and Parks Department was awarded a grant of more than $3 million from the California Parks and Water Bond Act of 2018 to be used to build the new park. The grant will cover the entire construction of the park and requires no matching funds from the City.

The park area is located on five acres of City-owned property at the corner of Linnell Way and Brahma Street which is surrounded by multiple residential neighborhoods. As requested by residents through a series of public meetings and website responses, a variety of amenities are planned.

The park at Linnell-Brahma will feature two half-court basketball courts, a pair of sand volleyball courts, two picnic shade structures, outdoor fitness equipment, as well as a walking/jogging path surrounding the park. Two age-appropriate playgrounds as well as open areas to be used for soccer, football and other field sports.

The park is expected to be completed by 2022.
