Kern County Sheriff's Office releases name of individual killed in officer-involved shooting

UPDATE: According to Kern County Sheriff's Office, the California Highway Patrol got a call at 7:18 p.m. about a reckless driver, identified as Marvin Alexis Urbina.

Officers reportedly spotted Urbina at the base of the grapevine and tried to stop him, but he fled.

Officials say about one mile later, Urbina crashed into someone else's car on the I-5 near Laval Road. The driver that was hit by Urbina was reportedly not injured and not taken to the hospital.

The officer-involved shooting took place shortly after that crash, and Urbina was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:42 p.m.


There are new details regarding a California Highway Patrol officer-involved shooting that took place near the Outlets at Tejon.

According to Angela Monroe with the Kern County Sheriff's Office, CHP got a call at 7:18 p.m. on Sunday night about a reckless driver. Officers reportedly spotted the car at the base of the Grapevine and tried to stop them, but the driver fled.

About one mile later, the driver crashed into someone else's car on the I-5 near Laval Road. The driver that was hit by the suspect was not taken to the hospital.

The officer-involved shooting took place shortly after that crash, and the suspect who had evaded police was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:42 p.m.

The identity of the man who was killed has not yet been released.
