New City Lights Mall gets approved by City of Bakersfield Planning Commission

Posted

The old East Hills Mall is getting a facelift after the City of Bakersfield Planning Commission approved a new project to tear down the mall and build a new one.

The New City Lights Mall will sit on more than 34.6 acres of land and the new 358,295 square foot facility will feature a cinema, eleven major retailers, four smaller retailers, eight restaurants and a new fitness center.

According to the City of Bakersfield Planning Commission's report, this new development would not impact the environment and will be compatible with the existing residential land use that's already in place. Even though commissioners expressed concern for the current sidewalk system they agreed to pass the proposal and work with the developer McIntosh & Associates, representing City Lights LLC to make the new mall a reality in Bakersfield.

Developers plan to start construction immediately and they plan to have the facility complete by August of 2020.
