Mountain lion sighting, police issue warning

Posted
and last updated

A mountain lion sighting in Stallion Springs forced police to issue a warning on Monday.

The advisory was issued after a mountain lion was spotted near the 9th tee on the Horsethief Golf Course.

Since February, several pets have been attacked by mountain lions in Tehachapi and the surrounding mountain communities.

Brent Zimmerman’s German shepherd was attacked back in February. The injury would prove to be deadly. Zimmerman had to put his dog down just days after the attack.

It is unclear how many mountain lions there are, but Zimmerman says the one he’s seen is aggressive and isn’t afraid of humans. With reports of the recent sighting, residents are concerned that the animals could attack other pets or a small child.

Fish and wildlife’s response to the recent sighting was to use common sense and sound safety practices.
