BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Monday marks six years since Jorge Ramirez was killed in an officer-involved shooting at a parking lot near a hotel on California Avenue.
According to family Ramirez was working as an informant for the Bakersfield Police Department trying to get information on wanted felon Justin Harger.
Ramirez met with Harger at the Four Points Sheraton when officers arrived on the scene. BPD says Harger began shooting at the officers and the officers fired back killing both Ramirez and Harger.
The officers involved were cleared in the shooting.
It was later discovered that disgraced officers Patrick Mara and Damacio Diaz were involved in making Ramirez an informant.
Ramirez's family agreed to a $400,000 settlement in the case earlier last year.
