MCFARLAND, Calif. — McFarland's interim city manager Larry Pennell submitted his letter of resignation, citing medical issues.
According to his letter, Pennell stated he has faced "increasing back pain and mobility issues" over the last several months and will soon undergo back surgery. Pennell stated he will undergo months of recovery and physical therapy following the procedure.
Pennell's resignation goes into effect May 29.
Pennell state he regrets that his resignation will come before he is able to complete current projects, but is grateful to have assisted in resolving the GEO project alongside City Council. Pennell said he would be pleased to assist in finding a replacement for interim city manager.
The McFarland City Council will discuss Pennell's resignation during its closed session meeting Thursday night.
