Man shot while driving on Highway 99

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A man was shot while driving down Highway 99 Monday night.

At approximately 11:20 p.m., two people in a vehicle were driving northbound on Highway 99, just south of Highway 223, when the driver noticed a black Honda Civic approaching behind them at a high rate of speed, the California Highway Patrol said.

The driver moved into another lane, allowing the vehicle to pass, but as the Honda was passing, the car's right front passenger pointed a gun out of the window and fire one round, CHP reported.

The driver was shot and drove himself to Memorial Hospital, officers said.

The driver and his passenger were later contacted at Memorial Hospital by CHP officers.

The suspect vehicle is described as a matte black 1996-1997 Honda Civic, and the suspect is described as a light complected man, wearing a black beanie and dark clothing.
