BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A local teacher has gone viral online when he remixed a popular song, "Truth Hurts" by Lizzo, for his students during the morning announcements.
On Monday he is getting star-studded treatment for his unique ways of connecting with his students.
Josh King, a third-grade teacher for Independence Elementary was featured on GMA3 and 23ABC was able to capture that special moment with his class.
"We are really happy for him and excited to see him on TV, " said Ethan Wahl, one of King's students.
King's third-grade class is staying engaged and learning their school lessons to his unique teaching style.
King on Monday spent half of his day on the set of GMA3 where his biggest fans, his students, watched with excitement in their classroom.
"We have to be able to engage with them, if we don’t have that engagement then we are going to lose them," said King. "I am there to talk to them and just remind them that we are human."
The Independence community says that it is no surprise that King is their local celebrity and now the world gets to see what they see daily.
King’s colleague Matt Klemper says he is not surprised by King's newfound popularity.
"My first reaction was there he goes again he is a very energetic and creative teacher he is coming up with different positive ways to do the announcement," Klemper said. "Just about every day and you never know what Mr. King is going to do in his classroom."
Now King's viral status sends him to MTVs Video Music Awards where he’ll be a special correspondent on the red carpet, possibly getting to meet the artist who inspired his video. With his students patiently awaiting his return.
"He makes me feel welcomed at school and it's a great way to start off my day," said Wahl.
And King's class had this to say to him
"We love you Mr. King, thank you."
