BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A landlord in our community is going viral on social media due to his acts of kindness during the COVID-19 outbreak.
H. Dennis Beaver is an attorney, Bakersfield resident who is offering his tenants a special gift to help them through this difficult time.
He is also a landlord for properties not only in Kern County but in Los Angeles as well.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak, he wanted his tenants to have one less thing to worry about.
"Don't pay April's rent this is our gift to you," Beaver said. "We are all in this war together."
Beaver says he hopes his actions encourage other landlords who are in the position to do the same.
"Landlords who own the properties outright who are not making mortgage payments [I want them] to think of the tenant," Beaver said. " [Think of them] not just as a source of income, but to think about that person's welfare."
Since his act of kindness, Beaver is getting calls of admiration from across the country.
Most of the calls are from other landlords, who say they are motivated by him.
Even inspiring fellow Bakersfield landlord, like Patrick Jennison.
"We are going to reduce their rent for the next two months, charging them half rent in April and May," said Jennison. "We are hoping we can encourage other landlords."
One of Jennison's grateful tenants is Andrea Holte, who lives in Newport Beach California.
She says this rent gift, will allow her to focus on other expenses, such as healthcare.
"It won't go overlooked," said Holte. "I feel like it's not just for us, but it's for the common good of all of us."
Both landlords say they want to encourage others to do whatever they can to help those in need during the COVID-19 outbreak.
