BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern High School District has announced the cancellation of the Shafter High School Fall Festival that was scheduled to take place today. In addition, the school district is also suggesting schools cancel all outdoor activities due to the high winds and blowing debris.

District officials added that team practices that take place outside are canceled for Wednesday.

Officials with Panama-Buena Vista Union School District said they will also monitor the air quality and "modify their schedules to minimize outdoor exposure," at schools.

According to the forecast, the worst of today's Santa Ana winds will be through the south mountains, with wind gusts to 55 mph or potentially faster through Tehachapi and Frazier Park. Those winds are paired with critically dry air and dry brush, meaning any spark would cause a wildfire to quickly grow out of control in these conditions, so be careful out there.

This a developing story. More information as it becomes available.
