Delano death investigation marks 100th homicide of 2018 in Kern County

DELANO, Calif. — The Kern County Sheriff's Office says they are investigating a suspicious death in Delano as a Homicide.

KCSO says they were called out to the area of Highway 155 and Wallace Road for a "possible deceased" person.

When deputies arrived around 7 a.m. Monday, they say they located a man with traumatic injuries to his body. KCSO says Homicide detectives were called to the scene and have since taken over the investigation.

Tuesday, the Kern County Coroner's Office identified the man as 24-year-old Mariano Fernandez Perez of Delano.

If the official cause of death is determined to be homicide, this will be the 100th homicide in Kern County in 2018; breaking the record from last year of 99 homicides.
