BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — COVID-19 has changed the way we interact with each other but that’s not stopping the Kern County Museum from hosting its Village Flea Market Sunday.
“We’re thrilled to be able to open up," said Event Director Brenna Charatsaris.
She said after canceling the spring flea market due to the pandemic, everyone is especially excited to see each other.
“Everyone I think is just thrilled to be able to come and shop and the vendors are thrilled to be able to get back out and sell," said Charatsaris.
There will be various booths at the market including food vendors like Brewed Awakening Coffee and Three Bullies Ice Cream.
“This is everything from antique goods to handmade goods, and we have about 50 vendors and it’s just going to be a wonderful day of shopping and enjoying our beautiful property," said Charatsaris.
Charatsaris said the pandemic has taken a toll on the museum. As a nonprofit, canceling events like the flea market make it difficult to fundraise.
“This is our chance to give back to the community and raise a little money for our sweet little 501(c) nonprofit," she said.
All vendors are at least six feet apart and face masks will be required, although they can be removed in one designated area for picnic lunches.
Tickets are purchased at the gate for $5 and children 12 years old or younger get in free.
“We want to encourage families to come as a group and enjoy the day," said Charatsaris.
She said she hopes the event brings the community together and serves as a fun weekend activity.
“I think it’s going to be a nice way to interact at a safe distance, fully masked, but I really hope everyone just has a fun day of shopping and really realizes what a treasure, a local treasure, the kern county museum is," said Charatsaris.
The Village Flea Market will take place at the Kern County Museum on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
