The Kern County Fire Department is sending 22 firefighters and five engines to help battle the Pilot Fire, they announced in a tweet Monday.

The blaze is in the San Bernardino National Forest north of Crestline near Silverwood Lake.

The fire started on Sunday near Pilot Rock Conservation Camp at just 30 acres and has quickly grown to more than 4,500 acrews. It is currently 5 percent containment.

Nearly 500 personnel are currently fighting the fire.

Parts of highway 173 was closed but fire officials said it has since reopened.

Smoke advisories were issued by health officials for the Mojave desert.

The red cross is working with Cal Fire and the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department to get people who were forced to evacuate into shelters.

So far no structures have been lost and no one has been injured.
