Nearly three years since the death of Bakersfield Police officer David Nelson, the man convicted in his death is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday morning.

Julian Hernandez was found guilty of second-degree murder in April. He was also found guilty of evading an officer causing death and multiple gun possession charges.

Hernandez led Nelson on a chase in June of 2015, ultimately causing Nelson's patrol car to crash, killing him.

WATCH:

Nelson was the first BPD officer to be killed in the line of duty since William Sikola was killed in a high-speed pursuit in 1983.
