At Riverlakes golf course, one person who has a hard time seeing, has a vision inspiring others. 23ABC’s Adam Bowles has the story of a man who doing something powerful for our veterans.
Joe Buccino created the program called Organized Veterans Appreciation at Riverlakes. He is offering free rounds of golf and free lunch to show appreciation for those who fought for our country.
Here at Riverlakes ranch golf course, Joe Buccino has a vision.
"When my dad had leukemia and he was on his death bed he looked at me and said, ‘hey Joe im going to leave you a few bucks and i want to make sure you take care of the veterans because he was a veteran," Buccino says.
A vision that was passed down from his father.
"I said ok and he left me a few bucks and, yea Im doing something he wanted me to do and that makes me happy," Buccino says.
Joe has a program called Organized Veterans Appreciation at Riverlakes ranch which means he is treating all veterans of any branch to free golf and free lunch from the clubhouse menu anytime Riverlakes is open!
"Im treating the veterans to a little golf and a little lunch at the clubhouse. You know just pats on the back and giving them some love, and it makes my day. It keeps me alive and it puts a smile on the veterans face and that is precious to me," Buccino says.
His actual vision is blurred. He has cataracts which means he cant see that well.
"I used to be able to see the golf ball but now I cant see the golf ball. I have cataracts and they are getting removed and i cant wait," Buccino says.
But that is not stopping his vision that comes from his heart.
"A veterans program helps the community too because we wouldn't be a community without our veterans. They just deserve it. Veterans deserve it. It makes me happy doing it and it makes them happy doing coming out here and doing it, like I said it’s a win win situation and it keeps me alive," Buccino says.
Which is all that matters to him.
