BAKERSIFELD, CA. — Therapy is an essential part of healing for cancer patients.

Kern Dance Alliance partnered with Adventist Health to create Healing Motion, a dance movement therapy class for cancer patients.

According to KDA, it is the first of its kind in Kern County.

“What we're able to do through dance movement therapy is use motion to free and to make these women become vulnerable about their experience, but at the same time empowered by movement as they move through their journey of breast cancer," said Andrea Hansen, Kern Dance Alliance.

Although the classes is hosted at Adventist Health AIS Cancer Center, you don't have to be a patient there to attend. The class is open to any cancer patients in the community.

“So we mix movement with cognitive processing and emotional processing," says Elena Rezai, dance movement therapist. "It's half movement and relating that back to how we feel emotionally and physically."

The class takes place Wednesdays from April 3rd to May 22nd.

2:30-3:30 Class #1- Breast Cancer Patients + Survivors

3:45-4:45 Class #2 Cancer Patients + Survivors (All Diagnosis)
