BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Following Thursday's funeral, a memorial service and backpack drive for the late Jose Arredondo have been planned by Family Motors on what would have been his 60th birthday.
Arrerondo, a well-known Bakersfield businessman who was reportedly beaten to death in Mexico one week ago will be buried at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park on Thursday.
The company said in a news release that it is "accepting school-backpacks to donate to students during the back to school season" at a memorial planned for Monday.
"On July 29, Jose Arredondo would be 60 years old," the release added. "Jose always encouraged the youth to stay in school. Let's keep his legacy."
The public memorial will take place on Monday, July 29 at 6 p.m. at the New Life Church, 4201 Stine Road, Bakersfield CA 39913.
If you're not able to take the backpacks there, Family Motors said you can drop them off at Family Motors Acura until Wednesday, July 31.
