Evacuations were ordered for the area on Interstate 5 at the Grapevine just north of the upper water hole due to a brush fire.

While evacuations were mandatory for about an hour, the Kern County Fire Department scaled back to the evacuations to "recommended" status at around 12:45 p.m.

The fire broke out just before 11:30 a.m. three miles north of Ft. Tejon Road.

The blaze is estimated to be about 10 acres in size at this point. Approximately 40 firefighters are helping to contain the fire and have stopped its forward progress despite gusty winds in the area, KCFD crews said.

Nearby Interstate 5 in the area isn't impacted as a result of the brush fire.

No injuries have been reported in the incident.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fire is covering five acres and is heading toward homes at the top of Digier Road.
