BAKERSFILED, Calif. — It's an easy problem for the community to solve. That's the message Bakersfield's mayor Karen Goh and the organization Keep Bakersfield Beautiful is trying to send with their Downtown Bakersfield cleanup.
More than 40 volunteers helped clean the streets of Bakersfield Saturday morning from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. It's the first of two volunteer efforts to help clean the city.
As 23ABC recently reportedtrash can be found everywhere in Bakersfield. It has been called an eyesore that has health and urban risks to it. If trash gets in the drains it can cause flooding in the streets.
A second group of volunteers will help clean up outer parts of the downtown area near Jastro Park and Central Park at Mill Creek between 10 a.m. and noon.
If you would like to volunteer to help with a weekly Keep Bakersfield Beautiful cleanup you can message them on their Facebook page Keep Bakersfield Beautiful. If you would like to report illegal dumping or ask for the city's help with trash visit the Bakersfield's website.
