DMV computer outage impacts local offices

Two locations in Kern County closed
Posted

A major computer outage has impacted at least 100 DMV field offices across California - including two in Kern County.

Despite the statement released by the California Department of Motor Vehicles last night, stating that normal operations were expected to resume this morning, the “F” Street and Arvin offices remained offline throughout the day.

Some DMV services such a driving tests are still available. You can also pay for your registration and receive new tags using their kiosk.

But anything involving using their computer system cannot be done.

Drivers with appointments at the “F” Street office are being directed to the southwest Bakersfield office where their appointments are being honored.

DMV staff and crews have been working since Monday to fix the problem, described as a “catastrophic hardware failure.”

The department wants to remind customers that DMV online services are still available.
